About Me
Musical Background
I needed an art credit for high school. Guitar 101 seemed slightly preferable to Pottery so I registered for the class—well, it was all over from there. A decade of à la carte study involving countless teachers and bands, a pact with myself to play guitar every day, and spending worrying amounts of time in my room listening to and reading about music eventually culminated at the university.
In 2022, I graduated at the top of my class from the University of Washington School of Music (4.0 GPA), where I studied Guitar Performance, Music Theory, and Music History. Two merit-based scholarships paid for my guitar studies in which I performed as a soloist and in various guitar ensembles, participated in masterclasses with international artists, and received private instruction from the head of the department. I also began a “second life” as a singer where I was a member of the university’s premier auditioned choir, Chamber Singers, while also receiving private instruction on vocal technique.
Additionally, I’m the Executive Director of the Klaus Lendzian Archive (KLA), an organization founded in 2018 to preserve and promote the life and music of the late Seattle guitarist-composer Klaus Lendzian, and am the Bass Section Leader at Lake Washington United Methodist Church where I perform a new handful of songs live every Sunday.
Teaching Background
I’m fascinated by music. I really think it’s the coolest darn thing, so I’ve been sharing my knowledge since the very beginning with anyone that would listen (e.g., half-interested high school friends).
That said, I began teaching professionally in 2017, first privately, then as an instructor at Guitar Center Redmond (my hometown) and Guitar Center Lynnwood for three years before founding my own studio in 2020. At this point, I’ve taught hundreds of students (some of whom have been with me for several years!), so I’m confident in my ability to effectively teach people of all ages, levels, and styles.
I think one thing that sets me apart as an instructor is that I’m not just passionate about music, I’m passionate about education as an art and science itself. Head over to the Philosophy and Method tab for an overview of how I approach teaching music.
